I’ll keep this short, unlike the novel, which went on forever—but at least it had the decency to come in bite-sized chapters.

What on earth did I just listen to? It was super disturbing. Every line felt like it had crawled out of a morally bankrupt brain cell, and I loved it. Our main character, Lalla—officially a sociopath, unofficially a sociopath-psychopath hybrid—devotes herself to keeping her children, her marriage, and the whole clan safe, polished, and climbing the social ladder. And absolutely no one is allowed to get in her way. If they try, they’ll end up wishing their mother had used better contraception.

Beyond Lalla’s delightful darkness, we meet other characters whose lives we can’t help wanting to follow, even as their character development makes us question their sanity, our sanity, and possibly the author’s.

This book is disturbing, but absolutely worth it for the twisted fun. Just a reminder: this is not a self-help manual or a guidebook for life or marriage—unless your life goal is a prison sentence. It’s a novel. Read it, listen to it, then kindly erase any practical ideas it may have given you. Under no circumstances should you follow Lalla’s to-do lists. Those are for entertainment purposes only—and maybe for evidence, later.
